Marvin Gaye - Visionär des Soul
He was the gentle rebel of soul: Marvin Gaye, one of the greatest musicians of the 20th century. With his unmistakable voice and hits like "I Heard It Through the Grapevine," "What's Going On," and "Sexual Healing," he shaped American pop culture-a legacy that continues to this day. Without any knowledge of music theory or formal training, the "Prince of Soul" worked his way up from background singer to one of the most important artists on the legendary Motown label. His songs combined melancholy and hope, sensuality and social commentary-making him a voice of change. But behind the perfect facade hid a deeply wounded man. Early childhood trauma, depression, stage fright, substance abuse, and family conflicts overshadowed Gaye's life. A sabbatical in Ostend, Belgium, in the early 1980s seemed to offer temporary healing-but the inner turmoil remained. On April 1, 1984, one day before his 45th birthday, his life ended tragically: shot by his own father.
