Uncovered Rome
A young content creator and his inseparable dog arrive in the Eternal City after unexpectedly winning the #UncoveredRome artist residency. Suspended between wonder and uncertainty, their unfiltered gaze settles on a city that has defied definition for millennia. It isn't the postcard version of Rome that reveals itself: beyond the monumental façade emerges an intimate, popular city, made of hidden spaces where archaeology transforms into emotional experience. A Pleistocene elephant cemetery in West Rome, the "fatal places" between Sacrofano and Prima Porta, the labyrinths of the Portuense Necropolis, and the streets of the Esquilino: documentary reality and fiction intertwine in an existential journey inviting the viewer to look beyond the screen. Uncovered Rome is a project of the Soprintendenza Speciale di Roma that reinvents the storytelling of archaeology, exploring new forms of narrative in scientific dissemination. The four-episode docu-fiction hybridizes cinema and social media, coming to life on Prime Video and expanding onto Instagram through reels and stories from the protagonist's digital alter ego. The layered memory of Rome surfaces in the folds of the everyday, from the present to the distant past, reminding us that it is never the city we think we truly know.
